Memoirs of a Proper Young Man
Les Mémoires d'un jeune homme rangé

Author: Tristan Bernard

Year: 1899

Description: Tristan Bernard was a playwright, novelist, journalist, and lawyer who wrote for the théâtre de boulevard, a genre meant to entertain middle-class audiences on Sunday afternoons. He had a sharp eye for the ridiculous and keen tendency to deflate pompous characters.

Although much admired for his quick-witted plays, this novel was greatly appreciated by his contemporaries. Early editions include illustrations by Hermann-Paul.
