RenΓ© Georges Hermann-Paul was an artist of considerable scope who rose to fame during the Belle Γ‰poque. He is notable for satiric characterizations of the foibles of French society. Parisians got to know him as a stalwart defender of Alfred Dreyfus during the trail in which the captain was wrongly accused of treason.

DeloyeHermann-Paul was an illustrator whose art appeared in literary journals and news weeklies. He provided an iconic depiction of an era. From the Dreyfus Affair to the Great War, Hermann-Paul's artistic imagery continues to shape our perception of Parisian society as the 19th Century gave way to the 20th.

BarrisonHe was a poster maker in circle of Tolouse-Latrec. His poster art appeared in Paris at the height of the Poster Revolution. Hermann-Paul produced several high quality color lithographs that remain desired collectors' items.

Femme EspagnoleHe was a modern graphic artist who produced fine works in wood cuts, dry points, lithographs and stone engravings. A large number of Hermann-Paul art prints resurfaced in October 2000 at an auction in Chartres. Much of the work now on the market bears the stamp of this sale on the verso.

A woman sewingHerman-Paul worked as a fine artist in water colors, pastels and oils. His early work was in the Intimiste style, a word coined - derisively it seems - by Vuillard to describe his own style at the time. He was displayed in galleries beside Vuillard, Matisse and Toulouse-Lautrec.
